About
Welcome to the MassUMA Blog!
The purpose of this blog is to:
- Disseminate information about the Uniform Mediation Act (UMA) in Massachusetts
- Reach as many people as possible in the Commonwealth and to gain their input about the UMA — including mediators, members of the bar, and the general public
- Encourage as many people as possible to join the discussion about the issues raised by the UMA — provide feedback, raise questions, and hopefully to get those questions answered
Your comments are welcome.
What is MassUMA?
On September 8, 2006, the first meeting of more than 50 members of the dispute resolution community in Massachusetts met at Suffolk University Law School to begin addressing the issue of adapting the Uniform Mediation Act (UMA) to the needs of Massachusetts mediators. See the introductory letter for background on the genesis of this meeting and the meeting announcements and minutes page for notes from this and other meetings.
Out of that initial meeting, a group emerged. Its aim was to explore and discuss together the issues that adoption of the UMA raises for mediators and mediation practice. This group is known as the MassUMA Working Group.
For more information on the activities of that group, please visit the MassUMA Working Group web site.
